Setting up Apple Mail on macOS and iOS

Apple Mail can use an ITProMail mailbox over IMAP for reading and SMTP for sending. Apple's automatic setup often fails for custom domains, so the steps below use manual settings. The same values apply on macOS, iPhone and iPad. Use an app password as the password, not your account password.

Create the app password first

Sign in to the webmail, open Account, then Security, and create an app password labelled for the device you are configuring, for example "MacBook Mail" or "iPhone Mail". Keep it in a password manager. Each device should have its own app password so you can revoke one without touching the others.

Settings to use

SettingValue
Account typeIMAP
Incoming serverimap.itpromail.com, port 993, SSL on
Outgoing serversmtp.itpromail.com, port 465, SSL on
UsernameYour full email address (both servers)
PasswordThe app password (both servers)

If you prefer STARTTLS, use smtp.itpromail.com on port 587 with TLS enabled in the outgoing server settings. Do not disable TLS on either server.

macOS

Open Mail and choose Mail, then Add Account, then Other Mail Account. Enter your name, your email address and the app password. If Mail cannot find the server settings, it will ask for them. Choose IMAP as the account type and enter the incoming and outgoing values from the table.

After the account is added, open Mail, then Settings, then Accounts, and select the account. In the Advanced section, confirm that the account uses SSL and port 993. Open the outgoing mail server settings and confirm that TLS is enabled and the port is 465 (or 587 if you chose STARTTLS).

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings, then Mail, then Accounts, then Add Account, then Other, then Add Mail Account. Enter the name, email address, app password and a description. Tap Next. If iOS does not complete the setup on its own, choose IMAP and fill in the host names and usernames from the table.

After saving, open the account and check the advanced options. SSL should be on for the incoming server, and the outgoing server should use SSL on port 465. iOS will try to verify the settings when you save. If it reports that it cannot connect, recheck the host names for typos before changing anything else.

Checking the result

Send a test message to an address you control and confirm it appears in Sent on the device and in the webmail. Then move a test message to another folder and confirm the move shows up in the webmail too. That confirms that IMAP sync is working in both directions.

Certificate warnings

If Mail shows a warning that it cannot verify the server identity, stop and check the host name in the account settings against imap.itpromail.com and smtp.itpromail.com. A mismatch is a reason to stop, not a reason to accept the certificate. If the host names are correct and the warning persists, contact support with the exact message shown.
